Oracle APEX Software Engineer

Job Type: Full Time

Location: Remote

Must be able to obtain a public trust clearance.

Key Responsibilities

• APEX Mastery: Architect, develop, document, and implement both logical and physical database changes in Oracle APEX.
• Solution Leadership: Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of APEX applications, enforcing best practices for security, maintainability, and performance.
• Application Lifecycle: Build and maintain online programs, batch jobs, interfaces, configuration changes, reports, and corresponding unit/integration tests within the APEX environment.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Facilitate requirements sessions with users and stakeholders; translate business needs into detailed technical specifications.
• Agile Planning: Define high-level sprint schedules, prioritize user stories, and ensure timely delivery against project milestones.
• Team Direction: Plan, assign, and review the work of APEX developers; provide coaching, code reviews, and technical guidance to uphold quality standards.
• Service Integration: Leverage existing SOA services; design and develop new SOA services, RESTful/SOAP APIs, and microservices-ensuring modular, reusable, and portable code.
• Error Handling & Logging: Implement robust exception handling and centralized logging to simplify troubleshooting and supportability.
• Security & Compliance: Identify and remediate information-assurance vulnerabilities; implement APEX security features and access controls.
• Problem Solving: Define system scope and objectives; devise or refine procedures to solve complex technical challenges.
• Documentation: Produce clear, comprehensive specifications, data models, architecture diagrams, and runbooks.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with DBAs, UX designers, QA engineers, and infrastructure teams to integrate, manage, and maintain complex database environments.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 10 years of hands-on applications software development, with demonstrated expertise in Oracle APEX.
• Proven track record of leading APEX development projects and integrations.
• Deep proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL for database design, querying, and procedural logic.
• Oracle APEX certification or equivalent specialized training.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass a DOI Public Trust background investigation.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Expert-level ability to build interactive APEX pages, reports, charts, and dashboards.
• In-depth knowledge of APEX components, plugins, and security features (authentication, authorization schemes).
• Experience integrating APEX applications with external systems via RESTful/SOAP web services and custom ETL workflows.
• Advanced skills in SQL query tuning, indexing strategies, and caching for high-performance data access.
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines for APEX application deployment.
• Strong understanding of Oracle Database architecture, high-availability configurations, and backup/recovery best practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

EDUCATION LEVEL: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field (Master's preferred).
