About the role

As part of our successful growth in the United States and Canada we are seeking a Wayfinding Planner to work with the existing project team to lead detailed wayfinding system planning, stakeholder liaison, and sub-contractor coordination on a variety of wayfinding projects being developed for implementation.

This role will represent Applied as a professional coordinator and advisor to ensure effective, high quality delivery of prepared design work. Based in San Francisco, it will require experience with planning the implementation of complex signage projects including preparing message and sign placement schedules, coordinating with public agencies, reporting to client teams, and quality control.

Related to this there will be opportunities to travel for projects and inter-company events.

Responsibilities

• Review sites and plans with stakeholders and clients to develop wayfinding strategies in both horizontal and vertical environments, such as transit facilities, offices, and other settings
• Support the design team in translating those strategies into practical design concepts and solutions
• Create site plans and schedules based on strategies and using wayfinding sign design standards
• Conduct, analyse, and present research including movement patterns and decision points related to wayfinding, physical legibility and accessibility, information plans, and signage location and content proposals.
• Liaise with design teams, other planners, and implementation managers to agree sign plans and schedules
• Represent Applied in meetings with clients, the public and stakeholders to agree sign plans
• Collect and document information from stakeholders and regulatory authorities to inform sign plans and schedules
• Participate in project management meetings to provide progress reports
• Assist with team management and project communications
• Attend site visits as needed to assess and support the quality of implementation

Who we are looking for

• At least 3-years experience of being responsible for planning wayfinding projects or project management in multi-stage projects and multi-disciplinary teams
• Experience in a responsible role for wayfinding and information planning with an ability to produce and justify sign plans and schedules that interpret and adapt to complex strategies and site conditions
• A background in Information Design, Architecture or similar discipline is desirable, and experience with public transportation projects would be an advantage
• Confident and clear written and verbal communicator with clients, stakeholders, and team members
• Highly organized, able to independently prioritize tasks, and able to calmly recognize and respond to change
• A positive contributor to the wider team able to encourage and inspire excellence while also adaptable to the inevitable changes in complex project delivery
• Ability to travel to sites independently
• Holding a degree in information design, design strategy, architecture, planning, or engineering. With PMP or PE certification an asset
